Simple Carrier: A Tranquil Residential House Designed by Shiming Li

Creating Harmony and Warmth in the Midst of the City

The unique feature of Simple Carrier lies in its calm and cool gray tones, which exude a peaceful and serene texture. Tranquility permeates throughout the public domain, providing a soothing environment for relaxation and rejuvenation. The curved windows not only allow abundant natural light to flood the space but also add a touch of warmth to the mellow carrier.

In a recessed color palette, soft furnishings of highly saturated colors and amber light sources are strategically placed to improve the visual temperature. This careful balance of rationality and sensibility brings beauty into daily life, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the space.

The realization of Simple Carrier is achieved through the use of various materials such as marble, wood grain grille, gray glass, titanium metal laminate hard plastic sheet, stone-like tiles, and titanium-plated strips. These materials work together to create a cohesive and visually stunning design.

Spanning across 228 square meters, Simple Carrier features three bedrooms, one living room, one dining room, three bathrooms, and one dressing room. The layout is thoughtfully designed to maximize functionality and comfort, providing ample space for the residents to live and thrive.

As Shiming Li explains, "The marble TV wall is framed by lateral symmetric wooden grilles, smoothing out the uneven edges of the original structure. The dining table, with its circular traffic flow, becomes the centerpiece of the dining room, while the dark brown wood and glossy metal create a stable dining atmosphere. In the bedroom, the rust-like bedside wall adds personality through its straight dividing line and matching gray mirror."

Simple Carrier was completed in January 2022 in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Throughout the design process, Shiming Li conducted extensive research to ensure the balance and harmony of the space. By shading the windows and adjusting the original curved structure, the designer achieved a tension balance that enhances the overall scene.

Overcoming various creative and technical challenges, Shiming Li successfully integrated modern and sophisticated aesthetics into Simple Carrier. The structural beam across the canopy of the living room, for example, is wrapped in a black mirror to weaken its presence and create a sleek and elegant look. Transparent glass sliding doors were used in the kitchen to separate spaces without interrupting the overall atmosphere, allowing for a seamless flow between the inside and outside.

Simple Carrier is a testament to Shiming Li's exceptional design skills and attention to detail. This design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of Simple Carrier, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life.
